Hitch in '08

Therondmfm

Vanity Fair just released a series of shots depicting old Hitchcock scenes with contemporary actors.  Some are great (see above, and Strangers on a Train) and some fall flat, like the dude from Knocked Up filling in for Cary Grant in the classic North by Northwest shot.  Surprisingly, no Rope as of yet; I propose a shot of Tobey Maguire or maybe Joaquin Phoenix at the piano playing the Poulenc.

Thanks for your work, Marc

Some of you know that Marc Geelhoed is leaving Time Out Chicago to become coordinator for the Chicago Symphony's in-house record label CSO Resound. I'll greatly miss reading Marc in Time Out every week.  His features were never run-of-the-mill and were always written with a young and humorous vigor, which classical music needs now more than ever.  Yet he never did so at the expense of substance.  As creativity goes, this article speaks for itself.  As for his blog, we hope he'll continue to write about music among other things, like this dandy when 50-Cent dopes down LvB's 9th for a Vitamin Water commercial:

"50 Cent overturns music history not because of any great artistic statement, but because he's too uncultured to know that you don't mess with Beethoven."

With his new responsibilities at the CSO, I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes the next Peter Gelb down the road. And yet he can always come back and be the next James Huneker, too.  The choice is his.

We've begun to spruce up our radio show playlists with some added dialogue.

Super bowl prediction....*update

New England 34

NYG 20

Obviously I'm not going out on a limb here because there's no way Eli Manning is ready to outperform Brady on a stage he owns.  Gaffney and Moss will have two touchdowns each; the Giants will turn the ball over early in the first quarter.  I think the lone bright spot for the Giants will be RB Brandon Jacobs, who will have rushing 2 TDs and ~ 90 yards on the ground.  In spite of my prediction, I'm still hoping for a Giant upset.

Oh yeah, somewhere Joe Montana will be praying for a Patriots debacle.  Can you blame him?

*Wow!  One of the most exciting sporting events I've ever seen.  You knew it was the Giants' night after Manning hit Tyree on that miraculous escape.  For sheer entertainment, I think this one trumps St. Louis/Tennessee in 2000.

The view from there

Yes, folks, Andrew Patner is now blogivating. That sage voice of Chicago arts and culture for x number of decades has erected his own little cyber playpen.  I hope y'all will permanently link him up on your owns blogs as I have just done.  This is a good stopping point for this week, so I wish you all a good weekend.
