Bryant Manning is a Chicago-based freelance writer. He is currently the classical & opera critic and contributing editor at Time Out Chicago magazine. He has regularly written for the Chicago Sun-Times since April of 2007, which now includes movie reviews as of March 2008. Bryant founded and now co-hosts Radio DePaul's only classical music program alongside Gerry Fisher. "Cyber Classical" runs Sunday nights from 9pm - 12am CT. In 2004, he wrote for mid-Michigan's flagship classical radio station, WKAR-FM. His first writing stint was for the Lansing Community Newspapers he embarrassingly called "The Cinema Snob," and it was the paper's first film review column. His work has also appeared in the weekly Michigan-based entertainment newspaper, Lansing Noise. Bryant gave up the trumpet after high school but continues to play piano regularly. In 2007 he finished his Master’s degree in English literature from DePaul University, and also holds a B.A. in English from Michigan State University (2004). Bryant is also a 2007 NEA Fellow from Columbia University's School of Journalism for music critics.
He was born in the picturesque river town of Keosauqua, Iowa in 1980.
